Description
"The Cost of Getting Sick" by Ben Fry (Fathom Information Design), developed for GE's Healthymagination initiative using MEPS (Medical Expenditure Panel Survey) data from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The interactive tool gives a more complete picture of the costs associated with chronic conditions — diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental health disorders — and shows where money is spent to manage these diseases at various ages. Users can explore how healthcare costs accumulate over a lifetime and which conditions drive the highest expenses. Fast Company called it "a spectacular health-scare graphic." The project is part of Fathom's broader portfolio of health data visualization work for GE, including related pieces on wellness and medical data.
