Description
Stamping the Water, a work of performance by Sung Dong in 1996, represents a ritual to capture reality and a metaphorical expression to make his mark on the water. In his performance, the series of gestures can be interpreted as his personal meditation or political resistance. As a significant figure in the development of Chinese conceptual art since the early 1990s, he often expresses traditional and domestic rituals using calligraphic writing, the stamping of seals and cooking.
