Description
Large-scale painted maps by Paula Scher depicting cities, countries, and continents with hand-lettered place names densely covering every surface. Her graphic interpretations transform geographic data into expressive typography-driven artworks, some measuring over 12 feet wide. Scher, a partner at Pentagram since 1991 and one of the most influential graphic designers in the world, began the painted maps series in the late 1990s. The maps blur the line between information design and fine art — they're geographically approximate but typographically precise, reflecting how we construct mental maps of places from names, associations, and cultural memory rather than strict cartographic accuracy.
