Description
Physical data sculptures by Sylvia Eckermann, an Austrian artist based in Vienna, translating stock market data into three-dimensional sculptural form. Her project "Indizes" (2009) is a data sculpture visualizing the stock market indices S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial, and NASDAQ from January to November 2008 — the period of the global financial crisis — made of poplar plywood. The dramatic crash of 2008 is literally carved into the sculpture's surface. She also created "The Invisible Force," which resembles a stock chart unfolding into 3D space, and "Plastic Trade-off" (2006), a light sculpture using real-time financial market data. Her work makes abstract financial forces tangible and physically present.
